No commentsLA Fire Department embraces Web 2.0
I was completely blown away today when I noticed that the LAFD is using both Twitter and Flickr to update citizens on what is going on in our community. I’m a long time Flickr user and have recently rekindled my appreciation for Twitter. Uses like this strike me as one of the more powerful applications of this technology. Sure, my friends’ tweets are interesting and will help solve world problems, but getting notifications of fires, burglaries, and car accidents and additionally seeing photos (props to the photographer at the LAFD) when ever and where ever I am (work, home, mobile) is simply amazing!
I want to offer a big thanks to who ever at the LAFD had the brilliant idea to start using Flickr and Twitter. Hopefully other public services will learn from their example and embrace web 2.0.
